The PRISM Family Study is now inviting people who have missing OR are separated from their family to take part
The video describes the PRISM Family Study, and in addition to inviting refugees with missing family, the study is now open to refugees separated from family
Everyone’s story matters. We would like to include your voice and experiences in PRISM Family.
The University of New South Wales, Australian Red Cross and the International Committee of the Red Cross have joined together to shine a light on the stories of those with separated and missing family. The PRISM Family study is a new Project Researching the Impact of Separated and Missing Family.
What is this study about?
Family is a very important part of our lives. When a family member is absent, it can be a very challenging and uncertain time.
The PRISM Family project seeks to learn more about how having a missing or separated family member affects a person’s thoughts, actions, feelings, and wellbeing. We would also like to learn more about the different ways that people cope with having a missing or separated family member and the type of support that is most useful. This study will bring to light the shared experiences of families with missing or separated loved ones.
With your help, knowledge from the PRISM Family project will help other families with missing or separated loved ones to get the right support at the right time and provide important new information that will be used to advocate for the needs of missing or separated people and their families around the world.
What will I be asked to do?
If you decide to participate, you will be asked to complete some questions on a computer or smart phone with internet access in your preferred language. Your answers will be kept private and not shared with anyone.
The PRISM Family study is different to other research studies. As your story unfolds, we want to keep hearing from you. This means you will be asked to complete these questions 4 times about 2.5 years (every 6 months-1 year).
Each time you complete a survey you will receive a $25 Coles electronic shopping voucher as a thank you.
Additional support is available to you and your family:
If you don`t have access to a computer or smart phone
If you have never used a computer or smart phone
If you require language support
Let us know if you require any additional support when you register your interest to participate in this study.
It is okay to decide not to take part. You can also change your mind and decide to stop taking part at any time.
If you are a client of the Australian Red Cross- Restoring Family Links program.
Whether you choose to participate or not, will not change the way the Australian Red Cross supports you and continues to search for answers if you have a missing family member. Your decision will not affect your relationship with the Australian Red Cross Restoring Family Links program, the International Committee of the Red Cross, the University of New South Wales, or any other organisation.
If your preferred language is not available and you are interested in participating, please complete the Register Your Interest form and we will be in touch.
If you or your family member prefer to talk to someone, you can call us on (02) 9385-0006. If you need an interpreter, let us know your preferred language and we will call you back with an interpreter.
You can also email us directly at prism@unsw.edu.au. We will then call you by phone with an interpreter if you require it.
